It is with great sadness that the family of Michael Rivera announces his passing. Born June 8th, 1927, the youngest son of Filomeno Rivera and Marie Lopez. Michael was fortunate enough to have lived a long eventful life of 93 years.
He has always said he would be “Going to the Happy Hunting Grounds in the Sky” and that day arrived Tuesday morning September 8th, 2020. Michael passed in his sleep at his home in Stafford, Texas from COPD.
Visitation for Michael is planned for Monday, September 21, 2020 from 5pm to 8pm with a Rosary at 7pm. Visitation will be at the Earthman’s Funeral Home at 12555 S. Kirkwood, in Stafford, Texas. Mass will be celebrated September 22,2020 at Holy Family Catholic Church in Missouri City, Texas at 11am. Burial will follow at Houston National Cemetery.
He is survived by his wife Milagros Rivera; his six children, Mike, Joseph (Virginia), James (Lydia), Mark (Tracy), John, and Grace (David); Step children Don, Mildred, Minerva, & Dindo; 12 grandchildren, (Including one pre-deceased, Jacob, in 1996), 22 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great-grandchildren, also, 10 step-grandchildren and 2 step-great-grandchildren.
Michael served in the Pacific during World War II and was stationed in Japan after the war. He married in 1951 to Elizabeth Aragon of Livingston, Texas who preceded him in death on 9-18-1997. He worked as a butcher in his youth, then later in Civil Service for the Veteran Administration as a Loan Officer. Michael served as a Eucharistic Minister at Holy Family Catholic Church. In his retirement years he loved to travel with his wife Milagros.
