Larry D. Meeks, 68, of Sugar Land, TX passed through the gates of heaven on January 23, 2015 after a courageous battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his loving family as he began his journey home.
Born August 18, 1946 in Pampa, TX, he was the youngest son of Wayne and Sue Meeks. As a member of a military family, Larry moved around the country until settling in Fort Worth, TX where he graduated from Castleberry High School. He attended Texas Christian University where he earned bachelor’s degree. He earned master’s degree from the University of North Texas in Denton.
After graduation Larry embarked on a successful career as an educator and held several leadership positions with school districts in Texas, including principal at the elementary school he had attended as a student. Prior to retiring, Larry was the coordinator of deaf services in the Fort Bend Independent School District.
Larry was married for 34 years to the love of his life and true soulmate, Carolyn Callaway Meeks. He is also survived by his daughter Catherine Parks, her husband Kyle, grandson Hudson and granddaughter Skylar of Fort Worth, TX; son Chad Bridges, his wife Claudia, grandson Matt and granddaughter Lauren of Sugar Land, TX; brother Dan and his wife, Lois, of Wimberley, TX; sister Sue Ann O’Neal of Fort Worth, TX; and sister in law Susie Edmiaston and her husband, Dale, of Granbury, TX.
A loving and caring husband, father and grandfather, Larry will be greatly missed by his family and large circle of friends. Larry enjoyed a good Tex-Mex meal at Joe T. Garcia’s in Fort Worth, watching the Dallas Cowboys win, and raising longhorn cattle on his ranch near Columbus, TX.
A celebration of Larry’s life will be held January 27 at 6 p.m. at Parkway United Methodist Church in Sugar Land with a reception immediately following the service at the church.
