Karin Marita Cheer, 64, of Missouri City, Texas, passed away on August 30, 2017, after being diagnosed with terminal Stage 4 lung cancer on July 17, 2017. She was a loving wife, mother, sister, and friend to many, and was an avid reader, loved crossword puzzles, and enjoyed listening to jazz.
Karin was born to Ella and Adam Felmet on May 9, 1953, in Flettmar, Germany. In 1954, she migrated to the United States with her parents and sister Ursula, and it was during that ocean crossing that Karin celebrated her first birthday and learned to walk. The family settled in Orchard Park, New York, where Karin’s aunt lived.
After graduating from Orchard Park Central High School, Karin attended SUNY at Brockport studying languages before taking a secretarial position with Goldstein, Navagh, Bulan & Chiari. Karin quickly distinguished herself and worked her way up to paralegal with the law firm.
In 1989, Karin married Nicholas Cheer and together they had two sons, Adam and Matthew. Then in 1994, Karin resigned her position with the law firm and the family bought a home in Missouri City, Texas, where Karin focused on her family and raising her two sons. After her husband died unexpectedly of a heart attack in 2010, Karin joined H-E-B where she prepared food and wine tastings as part of H-E-B Showtime.
Preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Karin is survived by her son Adam Cheer of Seattle Washington, Matthew Cheer of Missouri City, Texas, and her sister Ursula Felmet of Houston, Texas.
A funeral service will be held at 12:00 pm on Thursday, September 7, 2017, at the Earthman Southwest Funeral Home in Stafford, Texas. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you make a donation in Karin’s name to the American Cancer Society.
