Joyclyn “Joya” Giraud passed away on Wednesday, October 21, 2015. She was born on December 19, 1929 in Kenosha, Wisconsin. She was a longtime resident of Houston, Texas, but recently moved to Sugar Land, Texas to be closer to her children.
She is predeceased by her husband of 44 years, James “Jim” Hilton Giraud, and her parents Flora J. (Gastaldi) and John A. Cechin. Survived by her daughter, Maria G. Crawford (Edward) and son Douglas H. (Margaret), three grandsons, James Crawford (Magda), John Giraud, and Robert Giraud, and two great-grandchildren Julia and Matthew Crawford. She also leaves behind her sister, Maria Tullos of Corpus Christi and brother, John G. Cechin of Nacogdoches, as well as numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Joya and her husband James owned Giraud Insurance Agency where she ran the entire office from 1952 until retirement in 1984. She enjoyed collecting matchsafes and was a founding member and executive officer of the International Match Safe Association. She thoroughly enjoyed sewing, knitting, crocheting, crafting, was a voracious reader and dearly loved traveling and visiting museums. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
A Vigil and Rosary will be held at 7 pm, Monday, October 26, 2015. The funeral Mass of Christian burial will be held at St. Angela Merici Catholic Church, Missouri City, TX, on Tuesday, October 27, 2012 at 10:00 am. The family will be available at a reception celebrating her life immediately after. A private family burial will be held later.
