He was born in Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin on February 28, 1933, to John M. and Margaret “Peg” Peterson. John spent his childhood on his parent’s dairy farm with his younger brother, Bob. After graduating from Marquette University, he proudly served in the US Air Force. In 1957 he married the love of his life, Margaret, and they had three children. The family settled in Houston in 1965 where he began his 25-year career with Transco. He was always involved in his church and community, as well as supporting his children through their many sports, music and art endeavors. After retirement he was not satisfied with the quiet life and continued various business ventures. He never met a stranger. He was loved and respected by everyone who knew him.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Margaret Elizabeth Pearson Peterson, his parents, John M. and Margaret “Peg” Peterson, his brother Robert “Bob” Peterson. He is survived by his daughter, Diane Jensen (Eric) of Maunaloa, Hawaii; his son, Scott Peterson (Joy) of Houston, Texas; his daughter, Lisa Powers (John) of Buford, Georgia; his grandsons, Travis Peterson, Tyler Peterson, Robert Powers (Robin), granddaughter, Lauren Powers, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held on Friday, May 24 from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, 1801 Sage Road in Houston, immediately followed by the Funeral Mass at 10:00 a.m.
The Rite of Committal will be held on Friday, May 24 at 12:30 p.m. at Forest Park Westheimer Cemetery in Houston where military honors will be rendered.
Immediately following, all are invited to greet the family during a reception at a venue to be announced during the services.
