Janet Marie Bearden

Janet Marie Bearden passed away peacefully on March 25, 2015 in Houston, TX. She was born on January 7, 1934 in Newark, NJ. She is preceded in death by her husband, Gary Bearden, and her sister Barbara Seward. Janet is survived by her son Brian Bearden and wife Judy of Katy, TX; her daughter Lynn Burnett and husband David and their three children Ryan, Jacquelyn and Daniel of Charlotte, NC; and many beloved cousins, nieces and nephews.

Janet was a 1956 honors graduate of the University of Maryland and a member and treasurer of Alpha Delta Pi sorority. She worked for the U.S. Government in Washington DC from 1956-1960. Janet was also a member of Eastern Star. In 1960 Janet married Gary Bearden and moved to Bowie, MD where they started a family. The family moved to Houston, TX in 1975. Janet was a devoted mother and grandmother with a loving and generous heart. She was also a woman of great faith and compassion; Janet never met a stranger. She was a long time member of Memorial Drive Lutheran Church. She cared deeply for the environment and supported many environmental and wildlife organizations. Janet will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Janet’s family acknowledges a special thanks to Dr. Barry S. Siller, MD and his staff for the wonderful care they provided during Janet’s 4 year battle with cancer. They also extend heartfelt thanks to the physicians, nurses and staff at the Vitas Hospice Care Facility on South Gessner for the compassionate care they provided to Janet in the final days of her life.

A memorial service for Janet will be held at Memorial Drive Lutheran Church in Houston, TX on Monday, April 6, 2015 at 11:00am. A reception will immediately follow in the fellowship hall.
