James graduated from Clements High School in Sugar Land, TX in 2006, followed by Full Sail University in 2012 with a degree in Show Production. He began his career as a lighting designer by working at GJG productions while in high school. He honed his lighting skills while volunteering with the youth worship services at Sugar Creek Baptist Church.
After graduation from Full Sail in Orlando, Florida, James returned to Houston where he worked for LD Systems and did freelance work. James’ dream was to go on the road as part of a touring crew. He moved to Nashville to realize that dream. By age 31, James had either visited or worked in all 50 states. James specialized in concert lighting design and enjoyed touring with bands and creating exciting concert experiences. Most recently, he worked with country artist Tracy Lawrence for several years.
James’ interests were varied. Growing up, he enjoyed drawing, film-making, camping, and backpacking. He played roller hockey and ice hockey from second grade through high school. He especially enjoyed playing goalie for Clements High School. He was involved in scouting and earned the Eagle Scout award. In recent years, James became an avid Houston Texans fan, which was not easy while living in Nashville. James loved animals and had a habit of rescuing cats.
James was a believer in Jesus. His favorite place in church was in the tech booth. He said he worshipped best with lights. In the last two years of his life, he was part of a weekly online Bible study with Bible Study Fellowship.
He is preceded in death by his grandmother, Margery Poole, and his grandfather, Bill Ewing. James is survived by his parents, Ed and Sheryl Poole; his sister, Amanda Poole; his grandparents Melba Ewing, Dr. Edward K. and Dee Poole; his aunts and uncles, Randy and Karen Mitchell, Jim and Susan Cooper, David and Katie Poole, and Andrew and Kerry Poole; and his cousins, Megan Mitchell, Matthew Mitchell, Michael Poole, and Samuel Poole.
