It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Prince Gbolahan Gabriel Lemboye Karunwi, who left us peacefully on February 25, 2024, in Houston, Texas. Born to the revered Chief Josiah Ajayi Karunwi and Olori Helena Matanmi Karunwi, in Owode LGA, Abeokuta, Ogun State, Nigeria, Gbolahan’s life was one marked by dedication, service, and love.
Gbolahan was a scion of the Oshile Oke Ona royal lineage, a heritage that instilled a deep sense of responsibility and commitment to his community. His formative years were spent in Abeokuta, where he received his secondary education at Lisabi Grammar School. With a passion for creativity and a desire to contribute meaningfully to society, he furthered his education in Photography at Yaba College of Technology, Lagos.
Gbolahan’s professional career was as diverse as it was impactful. Starting as an electrician, he showcased his remarkable skill and craftsmanship before venturing into the public sector. His significant contributions at the Federal Ministry of Information, and his work with the Nigerian Ministry of Culture and Tourism in Abuja, highlighted his dedication to his country. Later, he continued his service in the United States, working with the Texas Department of Criminal Justice. A man of faith, he was also a member of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Dominion Chapel, in Stafford, Texas.
Gbolahan was a devoted husband to his wife, Olawunmi Karunwi, and a loving father to his children: Adeyemi, Adewole, Adeola, Oluwatoyin, Adeoye, Afolabi and Olanrewaju. His legacy is also carried on by his cherished grandchildren, who will miss him dearly.
Preceded in death by his parents, Chief Josiah Ajayi and Helena Matanmi Karunwi, and his siblings, Aweni and Jimi. Gbolahan’s memory will forever be cherished and celebrated by his family, friends, and all whose lives he touched.
A commendation service will be held in his honor on March 8, 2024, at the African Church, Lagos Mainland Diocese, Jehovah Jireh Parish, at 11:00 am.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 9 at 10:00 a.m. in the chapel at Earthman Southwest Funeral Home, 12555 South Kirkwood Road in Stafford.
Immediately following, all are invited to a reception to be held in the event room at Earthman Southwest Funeral Home.
Prince Gbolahan Gabriel Lemboye Karunwi leaves a legacy of love, resilience, and excellence. He will be deeply missed but remembered for his kind spirit, his commitment to his community, and his unwavering faith.
