EDWARD BRUCE SWEARINGEN passed away July 16, 2010, from complications of leukemia. He was born Nov. 15, 1948, in Washington, D. C. to Paul A. and Minnie H. Swearingen, both deceased. Edward grew up in Tucson, AZ, and graduated from University of Arizona. He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving in Vietnam in the late 1960s. Edward has worked in telecommunications, both nationally and internationally, for 35 years, the most recent 16 years in the oil & gas industry. At the time of his death he was working for Fluor Corporation. Edward is survived by his wife, Melinda A. Swearingen of Richmond, TX; his daughter, Tonya Kushner, of Beaverton, OR; and two step-sons, John G. E. Nicholls, of St. Albans, VT, and Andrew A. A. Nicholls, of Amherst, MA. He is also survived by two grandsons, Benjamin Kushner and Henry Kushner, and his sister and brother, Dolores Hadley, of Berkley Springs, WV, and Rod Swearingen, of Arlington, VA. Edward did not suffer fools well, but he honored friendships as sacred things. He helped the helpless and was a devoted Christian. Edward was tenacious in serving his country, and he loved and provided for his family. In all things he was steadfast. Edward will be greatly missed. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 AM, on Thursday, July 22, 2010, at Earthman Southwest Chapel, Stafford. There will also be services in Montgomery, VT, at a later date. In lieu of flowers the family wishes donations be made to the M.D. Anderson Blood Center, at www.mdanderson.org.
