Dorothy was born on April 2, 1937 in Houston, Texas to Salvador (Arthur) Pizzo and St. Peter (Pet) Caproni Pizzo. Her grandparents immigrated from Italy. Dorothy was the youngest of seven children. She attended San Jacinto High School, and after graduation in 1954 she was employed as a secretary for Lykes Bros. Steamship Company where she met her husband-to-be, John H. Thomisee, Sr. Dorothy was later employed as a legal secretary for several years. After having children, she stayed home to raise her family and clean house which she loved (both the family and the cleaning).
Dorothy was preceded in death by her loving husband of 64 years, John H. Thomisee, Sr., her mother, Pet Pizzo, her father Arthur Pizzo, her sisters, Elizabeth Rothschild, Ethel Pizzo, Marjorie Pizzo, Eloise Seal, and Joyce Jack, and her brother Arthur Pizzo. She is survived by her daughter, Deborah Meisgeier, and husband Steve, son, John H. Thomisee, Jr., and wife Donna, her granddaughter Nikki Long and husband Tim, grandson Jarrod Thomisee, and wife Michelle, granddaughter Angela Thomisee, grandsons Christopher Meisgeier and John Meisgeier, great-granddaughter, Ellie Long, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Dorothy resided in Houston with her family until 1981 when she and her family moved to Sugar Land, Texas. Years later, she and her husband moved to Richmond, Texas and lived there for over 20 years.
Dorothy was a life-long devout Christian. She was a member of Pilgrim Lutheran Church in Houston, Texas for over 35 years. Thereafter she was a member of Fishers of Men Lutheran Church in Sugar Land, Texas.
In her younger years, Dorothy loved playing cards and bowling. She was known for her immaculate housekeeping and her excellent spaghetti sauce and meatballs (often imitated but never duplicated). She was a caregiver to all and lived her faith until the end. She will be greatly missed by all of her family and friends.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to all of the caregivers at Optimum Personal Care Home in Sugar Land, Texas. They were always very kind and took good care of Dorothy. The family would also like to thank Esmerelda Vela who cared for Dorothy for many years. Esmerelda’s care and kindness is greatly appreciated.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America, or Lutherans for Life.
