Billy Wayne “Bill” Yell, age 91, passed away on October 1, 2024 in Houston, Texas. Born on June 9, 1933, in Erick, Oklahoma, Bill spent his formative years in the heart of the Texas Panhandle, where he proudly graduated from Dumas High School. He furthered his education at Wayland Baptist University in Plainview, Texas, earning a degree in Religion.
Bill’s dedication to his country was evident through his honorable service in the United States Army. His career was marked by versatility, from operating heavy equipment to owning businesses and working in real estate. He left a notable mark on the construction industry as Project Controls Supervisor and served as the Houston area President of the American Association of Cost Engineers.
Bill and his beloved wife, Geneva, shared 72 years of marriage and were devoted members of Sugar Land Baptist Church in Sugar Land, Texas. His life was characterized by a proactive, can-do attitude, often expressed in his motto, “There ain’t nothing we can’t do.”
He is survived by his wife, Geneva; children and their spouses, Gary and Linda Yell, Larry and Jane Yell, and Sherry and Kirk Dodson; grandchildren and their spouses, Ross and Jordan Dodson, Greg and Jessica Yell, Paul and Amanda Yell, Drew and Alyona Dodson, and Kay and Cory Byrnes; and great-grandchildren, Grady, Jonah, Brayden, Barret, Ava, Arthur, and Audra. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, J.R. and Ruth Yell, brothers, Joe and Raymond Yell, and grandson, Bradley Yell.
Memorial Services will be held at Earthman Southwest Funeral Home in Stafford, Texas, on October 7, 2024, with visitation at 10 a.m. and services at 11 a.m. An interment ceremony will immediately follow at Forest Park Westheimer Cemetery.
