Benjamin John Machalec of Missouri City, Texas went to be with our Lord on December 17, 2024 at the age of 85. He was born on November 08, 1939, in Moulton, Texas to the late Joe P. and Louise R. Machalec. He is preceded in death by his siblings; Alvin Machalec; Genevieve Lockstedt. He is survived by his siblings; Joseph Machalec; Beatrice Patek; Louise McGill.
Benjamin proudly served his country as a Vietnam War veteran, spending two years stationed in Germany in the U.S. Army. Displaying his talents on the basketball court, he earned the nickname “White Lightning” while playing on the Army’s basketball team. Proceeding his military service, he began his career as a mail courier at the Bellaire Post Office where he proudly wore a USPS hat for the next 45 years. He had a strong faith in God and was immersed in his Catholic community through the years. He was a Eucharistic Minister and volunteered within his church. He was a 4th Degree Knights of Columbus member of Assembly #2234; a member of Holy Family Parish Knights of Columbus Council #7728; a member of KJZT and VFW.
Benjamin enjoyed going fishing and quail hunting with his hunting dog, Blue, in his earlier years. Sharing his love for the outdoors, he spent many summers with his family camping in New Braunfels and at his bay house in Sargent, Texas. He had an avid love for the sport of baseball, spending over three decades umpiring baseball and softball games in the Houston and Missouri City areas. He shared his love for the sport with his daughters as their softball coach. As a devoted baseball fan, he was a lifelong supporter of the Houston Astros.
Benjamin is survived and forever loved by his beloved wife of 56 years, Emily (Lee) Machalec; his daughters, Jennifer Machalec of Pearland; Dana Schlatterbeck and her husband Craig of Katy; and his cherished grandchildren, Lauren Schlatterbeck; Cody Schlatterbeck. He was preceded in death by his daughter Shannon Machalec, whom he is now reunited with.
Benjamin was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather whose love for his family was unwavering. He was a source of wisdom, guidance, and unconditional love to all who knew him. We will forever treasure the memories we shared with him, and he will remain in our hearts always. He will be deeply missed by all.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in his memory to Holy Family Catholic Church.
