Leo Zimmer

Leo Zimmer of Southfield and Sanibel Island, age 91, passed away September 10, 2023. Leo passed peacefully with his daughter Laurel Zimmer at his side. Leo was preceded in death by his parents Sadie (Christner) and Floyd Zimmer, his siblings Richard, John, Patrick, Patricia, and Daniel; his children, Michael, Kurt (Corky), John Zimmer as well as his grandson Derek Zimmer. He lost his beloved wife of 27 years, Dawn Boesen in 2017.

He is survived by his daughter Laurel Zimmer, daughter-in-law Sheryl Zimmer, granddaughters Jacqueline Tessitore and Caitlyn Zimmer, and two great grandchildren Jaxon and Natalie Tessitore. Leo was much loved by Dawn’s children and her extended family including children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

After retirement he and Dawn traveled the world, became prolific potters and artists, enjoyed their gardens, daily cards, and were very involved in the Sanibel Island Community and UU Northwest church. Their many friends and family were fortunate to have them in their lives, and he will be greatly missed by all.
