Katharine was born in Gas City, IN in 1937 to her parents, Bernard and Georgia Richards. She married John Gottwald on June 28, 1958 in Gas City, IN. The two set off to Denver, CO to build their lives together. Shortly after they moved to Boulder, CO. There they began to raise their family, and later moved to Park Ridge, IL where they lived until 2000. Once ready for retirement they moved to Pass-A-Grille, FL in 2004.
Katharine graduated with degree in Education from Indiana University, and later earned a Masters Degree in Education while in Chicago. During her teaching years she was well loved by students and was successful in teaching Special Education for over 30 years.
She was known for being caring, fun loving, a great mother and wife, and a considerate person. Katharine was a fan of a good party and maintained a great sense of humor throughout her life as she loved to joke around. She was a strong woman who succeeded amongst diversity, and cherished her many wonderful friendships.
Katharine is survived and remembered her loving husband of over 61 years, John, their three children; Michelle, John and Karen, and three grandchildren; John, Krista, and Melissa.
A private memorial service will be held in Katharine’s honor. Details for a memorial celebration will be announced at a later date. Arrangements are being handled by Beach Memorial Chapel, 301 Corey Ave, St. Pete Beach, FL 33706.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Salvation Army or a preferred charity.
