While living and working in the Bay Area in 1981, Kriss met the love of her life, Jack. Their paths crossed in a bar and life together began.
Kriss and Jack started their adventurous life together living on a boat in Sausalito. A passion of Jack’s quickly became a shared hobby and lifestyle. Life aboard The Alternative consisted of taking the ferry in and out of the city for work and hosting friends for weekend booze cruises.
After their time in Sausalito, Kriss and Jack took a road trip down the California coast and moved to San Diego. This is where they planted roots, lived near close friends and grew their family. Kelly, Casey and John completed the Fitzpatrick clan.
Kriss’ greatest treasures were her children. She was the type of mother you could only dream of, making those around her feel loved through her words, affection and cooking. Her kitchen was always full. Not just with food, but with friends and neighbors, as they always felt welcome and drawn to Kriss. She was a second mom to everyone.
For many years, Kriss volunteered at school and in the community. She was the cool mom at recess duty, a supportive extra daughter to her best friend’s elderly parents and a volunteer driver for seniors, providing transportation to medical appointments or errands when they could no longer go independently. Taking care of people came naturally to Kriss.
Throughout the years, Kriss enjoyed many travels with Jack and her kids. Camping, sailing, scuba diving, road trips, and international adventures enriched their lives. Kriss was always up for anything. When Jack retired in 2017, they decided it was time for a new adventure. So they sold the house of 28 years, bought an RV and traveled the country for nine months, exploring 40 states (including Alaska), much of Canada and 36 national parks, before settling in Saint Petersburg, Florida. The term settling should be used lightly, as they used their Florida condo as more of a home base than a home, frequently setting off to make new memories. All of this while undergoing cancer treatments. Kriss had such a zest for life, many around her had no idea of the medical diagnosis she was dealing with.
After fighting breast cancer for eight years, Kriss passed peacefully surrounded by those she loved most. Kriss is survived by her husband Jack, her two daughters and their husbands Kelly and Patrick Doran and Casey and Jeff Butera, her son John, two grandchildren and many close friends Kriss considered family.
