Beloved Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Sister & Friend
Passed away peacefully November 27, 2010 with family at her side. Susan was born November 26, 1946 in St. Paul, where she lived most of her life. After graduating from Harding High School, she earned a degree in special education at St. Cloud State University. While there she was active in Alpha Xi Delta and retained close friendships with her sorority sisters through the years. She taught in St. Paul, Roseville and WBL until her health forced her to retire early. She was diagnosed with a hereditary lung disease called Alpha 1 Anti Trypsin Deficiency in 1992, which eventually led to a bilateral lung transplant on 5/18/04. Eternally grateful to her donor, she vowed to live every day to its fullest. She and Bruce loved to travel and made lasting friendships that reached across the U.S. as well as Mexico, Canada and Puerto Rico. Her passions were needlework, gardening, travel work and playing games, but her biggest love was family. She is survived by her beloved husband and caregiver of 44 years, Bruce; daughters, Amy (Jim) Grothaus of Hudson, and Alissa (Matt) O'Hara of Lino Lakes; beautiful and adored grandchildren, Joshua, Alexander and Lauren O'Hara, and Olivia and Oscar Grothaus; brothers, Richard and James (Pat), dear friends and many relatives.
