Passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on Feb. 3, 2014. Born April 27, 1923 in St. Paul, Minnesota. Survived by loving wife of 61 years Carol; son Mark (Eunice), daughter Patricia (Steve) Martinson, son Jeff, and son Rick; grandchildren Sean, Joe, Samantha, Kelsey, Michael, Nicholas, Jessie, Justin, Jordan, and Christina; 1 great-grandchild expecting. He was drafted into the Army Air Force, and was proud to serve his country with the 5th Air Force, 90th Bomb Group, Jolly Rogers. He was a B-24 Liberator power turret and gunsight mechanic during WWII, and deployed to the South West Pacific theatre for 21 months. He was awarded five battle stars and the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with two stars. He retired from Burlington Northern Railroad after 34 years. He had TWO green thumbs, and was a certified Master Gardener, and had a passion for riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle in his younger years. He was a volunteer for many years with the AMICUS Prison Inmate Program. His compassion for others and love for his family will live on through his children and grandchildren. Funeral service Saturday 10:00 a.m. @ St. Jerome Catholic Church, 380 East Roselawn Ave, Maplewood, MN 55117. Visitation is 1 hour before service. Interment Calvary Cemetery, 753 Front Ave, St. Paul, MN 55103-1438. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to St. Jerome Catholic Church.
