Our dearest, most beautiful, sweet beloved mother Marilyn Ann Quamme left this world to enter her heavenly home with Jesus on September 30, 2022, at the age of 90 while cared for at St. John's Hospital ER in Maplewood, MN. She was surrounded by her two loving daughters and son-in-law at the time of her passing where she was gathered gently and safely into her loving heavenly Father's arms.
Marilyn was born in Worthington, Minnesota on November 24,1931, to Alfred Pass and Dorothy (Hurlbert) Pass. She attended kindergarten and first grade in Crescent, California. She then moved back to Minnesota with her family to continue with grade school and junior high. She graduated from high school in Jackson, Minnesota in 1950. She attended and graduated from the Lutheran Bible Institute in Minneapolis, Minnesota in 1952. She finished her higher education at Mankato State Teachers College with a Bachelor of Science teaching degree in 1955. Marilyn met her loving husband Richard Harold Quamme in Windom, Minnesota on a blind date. They were married on June 22,1958 and were betrothed for 23 years until Richard passed away on December 27,1981. Richard and Marilyn had four children Steven, Lisa, Richie and Andrea. They both enjoyed their careers, Richard as an ordained Lutheran minister and Marilyn as a grade schoolteacher.
Marilyn thoroughly enjoyed her teaching career, making a happy home with her family, supporting them and spending time with her loved ones including all the precious pets in her family. She loved decorating, cleaning, organizing, sewing and cooking. She always gave lovingly and faithfully with selflessness never drawing attention to herself. At Woodbury Lutheran Church she sewed mittens to be donated to those in need and she was involved in Stevens Ministry where she would go to a selected persons home just to spend time with them when they needed comfort and care. When telemarketers called her home, she would listen and talk to them about the hope in Jesus and she would pray for them after the calls ended. To top it off, her sense of humor was the best! Just ask her friends and family.
Marilyn loved the Lord and His word with all her heart. She spent hours reading The Word and praying for the world, people, situations and her family. Some of her quotes from a family tree and picture book she put lovingly together for her children include:
"As I think back on my spiritual journey, I am thankful that the sign of the cross placed upon my brow from infancy was the cross of Jesus and that God faithfully followed me through the years to the point where I came to know Him and walk with Him."
"My senior year in high school I had a life changing experience of coming to know Jesus as my Savior and Lord of my life. I wanted to get to know Him and His word better, so I enrolled at the Lutheran Bible Institute in Minneapolis MN, the fall of 1950. I graduated in 1952. Those 2 years were enriching and fun. I grew up understanding the word of God. I'm forever grateful for this path that God set me on-a journey with a faithful Lord!"
Marilyn is preceded in death by her husband in 1981, her parents, her brother Roman "Bud" Pass. She is survived by a very loving and devout family who will miss her so terribly much. Marilyn's sister-in-law: Eloise Pass (and family), Marilyn's children: Steve Quamme (Kathy) Bemidji MN, Lisa Safer (Duane) Maplewood, MN, Richie Quamme (Tracy) Washington, NJ and Andrea Austin, St. Paul, MN, 8 Grandchildren: Aaron Quamme (Shanna) Portland, OR, Philip Quamme St. Paul, MN, Emily Quamme Bemidji, MN, Hannah Quamme Philadelphia, PA, Madeline Quamme Springfield, MO, Scott Safer (Sonja), Dorn Assenheim, GER, Great Grandchildren: Sienna, Henry and Noah Safer, Dorn Assenheim, GER.
Words really cannot express our unmeasurable loss. Yet we have been so honored and blessed to have had our dearest, most beautiful, sweet, wonderful, beloved mother in our lives. This makes saying goodbye so very hard. We love you and thank you Mom for you and your precious legacy in the Lord so beautiful, rich and true. We carry it and you in our hearts and lives forever and share it with others. We will see you soon dearest heart!
"The beauty of a woman is not in the clothes she wears, the figure that she carries, or the way she combs her hair. The beauty of a woman is seen in her eyes, because that is the doorway to her heart, the place where loves resides. True beauty in a woman is reflected in her soul. It's the caring that she lovingly gives, the passion that she shows & the beauty of a woman only grows with passing years."
-Audrey Hepburn-
