Lowell James Winter

After Lowell graduated from Johnson High School, St. Paul, MN in 1963, he started his career in the grocery business at Shopper’s City, worked at Red Owl, and owned a Brownberry Bread route prior to retirement.

Lowell loved traveling with his wife, Donna. One of their favorite trips was an adventure to Italy where they learned to cook authentic Italian dishes. He became so passionate about it he built an entire outdoor Italian kitchen, including a pizza oven to continue his love of cooking.

Lowell loved any outdoor activity; particularly cabin activities, campfires, fireworks, splitting wood, and four-wheeling. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, playing dice games, and cheering on his favorite team, the Minnesota Wild. Lowell and Donna spent many years traveling with the team and bringing all their grandchildren to their first hockey games. Blessed with such a big family, nothing was more important to him than time spent together and spoiling his grandchildren. His children and grandchildren will remember his love for holiday gatherings, especially Christmas. He played the best Santa Clause for many years and those memories will be cherished forever.

Survived by his wife, of 38 years, Donna Winter, and children: Dawn (Steve) Nelson, Lisa Winter, Amy Petersen (Tom Cardinal), Michael (Christina) Winter; mother Jan Wegwerth, brother, Gary (Georgette) Winter, Wayne (Joanne) Wegwerth; sisters: Sharon (Kent) Swanson, Cherie (Scott) Eggerth, Beth (Dave) Ouellette, Robyn (John) Krystosek, and Grandchildren; Andrew (Victoria) Nelson, Taylor Nelson (Aaron Judd), Alyssa (Nic) Jensen, Nicole (Kyle) Kriewall, Hannah Nelson, Molly (Max) Voss, Matthew Petersen, Mitchel Petersen, Maxwell Petersen, Jaxon Cardinal, Jordan Cardinal, Cassie Pla-Winter, Devin Winter, Dylan Winter, Derek Winter, and Great Grandchildren; Tucker Jensen, Lily Jensen, and Baby Girl Nelson (due in February) and Nieces and Nephews.

Preceded in death by son, David Winter, Father, William (Bud) Winter, Stepfather Arthur Wegwerth, and Sister Renee Johnson.

The wake will be held at Wulff Funeral Home on White Bear Ave in St. Paul on Wednesday, October 19th, from 4:00pm-8:00pm. The funeral will be held at Church of St. Peter in North St. Paul on Thursday, October 20th, at noon. There will be a burial following the Mass at Union Cemetery on Minnehaha Ave. In lieu of flowers, donations to the family are greatly appreciated.
