She was born and raised in Worcester, Massachusetts to Robert and Helen Broman. Judith was baptized at the Armenian Church of our Saviour in Worcester. Helen and Judith survived the Big 1953 tornado in Greendale. The family moved to Carlstad Street and Judy attended South high school. She was in the Glee club, senior choir librarian, played the cello in the orchestra, pep club and history club. Judith graduated in 1965. Following high school, she attended Barrington College, Barrington, Rhode Island.
Judy attended Bethlehem Covenant Church on Greenwood Street where she was confirmed and married Austin Kaufmann on August 3, 1968. In August of 1971, Judy and Austin moved to Rockford, Illinois and attended Bethesda Covenant Church.
Judy began her career in interior design as a "Girl Friday" and learned hands on skills for installing the designs. Three years later, she advanced to interior designer at Thompson Design Forum in Rockford, Illinois. In 1977, Judy and Austin relocated to Omaha, Nebraska and during that time, they adopted Tabby and Becki. In 1980, the Kaufmann's moved back to Rockford, Illinois and Judy continued her interior design career.
In the fall of 1983, Kaufmann's relocated to Eagan, Minnesota and Judy began working at Ethan Allen. She continued working for Ethan Allen until October 2013. During her career with Ethan Allen, she earned several awards and had many return clients. As a interior designer, Judy was passionate in creating homes for families.
She loved to garden, play games and spend time with her four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Throughout their marriage, Judy and Austin loved to go on road trips to New England, New Jersey and Florida to visit family and friends while enjoying the sites. They also made road trips to the Southwest states, California, Banff and Lake Louise, Canada. Just to mention a few trips.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Helen Broman; in-laws, Austin and Ruth Kaufmann; brothers-in-law, Charles and James Kaufmann.
Judy is survived by her husband, Austin; children, Tabby (Chris) Nelson and Becki Kaufmann; grandchildren, Amanda Nelson, Terrell Oliver, Tazara Oliver, Tionna Oliver; great-grandchildren, Sunshine and Riley Schmidt; brother, Jim Broman; brother-in-law, Joe (Terry) Kaufmann; sister-in-law, Ruthlynn (Ed) Collinge and many other nieces, nephews and family members.
Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, January 19, 2024 at First Covenant Church, 1280 Arcade Street, Saint Paul with visitation beginning at 10:00 AM.
