Jamal Wingo, age 75, passed away on July 19th, 2024. Born on July 11th, 1949, in Inverness Mississippi, he was the first of eight children born to the late Judge and Georgianna Wingo. The family relocated to Minnesota in 1955.
Jamal was preceded in death by his parents Judge and Georgianna Wingo, sister Emma Wingo-Tendell, and brothers Bellis and James Lee Wingo.
A proud alumnus of St. Paul Central High School, class of 1967. Jamal met, and married, Billi Jean. Out of that union 3 children were born. Jamal enlisted in the United States Marines, serving his country with honor from 1968-1970. After his military service, he embarked on a notable career at 3M, dedicating over 25 years to the company before retiring. Post-retirement, he pursued his entrepreneurial spirit by establishing a landscaping business. A venture that brought him much joy and allowed him to work alongside his grandsons.
Jamal’s life was marked by his special interests and his warm, engaging personality. Known for his humor and wise advice, he also had a deep passion for ballroom dancing and an enduring commitment to researching and sharing his family heritage.
He leaves behind his loving children, Shawn (Erika), Billi Jean (Jimmy), Tanya; grandchildren Britney, Aaron, Shaila, Shawnae, Ciara, Shawn Jr, Shamahd, Elija, and Manny; and great-grandchildren Andre, Bailey, Ron Ron, Audrey, Ari, Aubrey and De’Aja. Jamal is also survived by his siblings Maurice, Raymond, Diane (Frank), Patricia and Stephanie, along with many nieces, nephews, family and friends who will miss him dearly.
