Verna Champagne Champagne Romero

ST. MARTINVILLE – A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted for Mrs. Wiley G. Romero, the former Verna Champagne, age 89, at 11:00 am Saturday, July 25, 2015 at St. Martin de Tours Catholic Church with Fr. Keith LaBauve officiating. Interment will be follow at St. Michael’s Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 2:00 pm until 9:00 pm on Friday with a Rosary at 7:00 pm. The funeral home will reopen at 9:00 am on Saturday until service time.

A native and resident of St. Martinville, Mrs. Romero passed away at 12:26 pm on Tuesday, July 21, 2015 at Dauterive Hospital.

Verna was a very kind, loving and selfless daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother and aunt. Always putting others first and lending a hand when caring for family and friends gave her such joy. She will be remembered for her Catholic faith, “saint-like soul” and her constant smile.

She is survived by her daughter, Kathy Kalweit and husband Ray of Cade; one son, Rickey J. Romero of St. Martinville; two grandchildren, Natalie Foti and husband Rusty and Ty Kalweit; three great grandchildren, Dawson Kalweit, Gabrielle Foti and Mia Foti; one brother, Antoine Champagne and wife Janell of New Iberia and special nieces and nephews, Joe Leleux, Pat Bulliard and Jada Chiasson.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Wiley G. Romero; parents, Lucius and Louise Theriot Champagne; grandson, Jacob Bernard Romero; two brothers, Wesley Champagne and Whitney Champagne; and three sisters, Mary Laviolette, Ella Leleux and Pauline Denlinger.

Pallbearers will be members of the family and friends.
