Shelton was born March 13, 1946 in St. Martin Parish to the late Clifton “Ben” Hayes, Sr. and the late Margaret Boudreaux Hayes. On Friday, March 6, 2020 Shelton passed away at his residence peacefully with his family at his side. He was 73.
Shelton enjoyed many of the simple things in life, but two of his favorite pastimes were fishing, and taking care of his yard. He was meticulous about keeping it trimmed and cut just the way he liked it. He was also a huge fan of the Saints, and of his beloved LSU Tigers. Above all, Shelton’s greatest love was for his family. He had a beautiful marriage to his wife and best friend, Terry; and loved every minute spent with his children and grandchildren. He reunites with his grandson, Alex and now enjoys his reward of eternal life in Heaven. Rest well Shelton for you have earned your reward.
Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Terry Boutte Hayes; his daughter and son, Lori H. Bernard (Scott) and Shelton Hayes, Jr. (Leah); his grandchildren whom he adored, Alyssa Bernard, Maison Hayes, Ryan Hebert, Shaylei Hayes, Gavin Hayes and Valerie Hayes; his sister and brothers, Maryann Hayes (Dru), Wiley Hayes and Larry Hayes (Rhonda); a host of nieces and nephews; and his beloved and faithful Australian shepherds, Jemma and Pepper.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandson Alex Scott Bernard; and his sister and brother, Edmonia Trahan and Clifton Hayes, Jr.
