Remi Joseph Gardemal, age 72, passed away on Wednesday, February 21, 2024, at Calcutta House in Lafayette, Louisiana. Born on February 25, 1951, in St. Martinville, LA, Remi was the beloved son of the late William and Eula Champagne Gardemal and was one of three children.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, February 26, 2024, at St. Martin de Tours Catholic Church. Deacon Adam Conque’ will conduct the services.
Entombment will be held at St. Michael’s Cemetery.
A gathering of family and friends will be held on Sunday, February 25, 2024, from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Evangeline Funeral Home in St. Martinville. The funeral home will reopen at 8:00 am until 10:30 am on Monday.
In his youth, Remi embarked on a career with the City of St Martinville, working his way up to a Forman. Later, he transitioned into the oilfield industry, as a crane operator for Texaco and Nabors Drilling. He worked with several tree trimming services and he was also an entrepreneur opening several bar and grills over his lifetime.
Known for his compassionate nature, Remi was an ardent animal lover, with a special fondness for his cherished dog, Breauxdus. He doted on Breauxdus, ensuring he was well-fed with fresh chicken and always keeping a watchful eye to prevent his escape.
Remi found solace and joy in the simple pleasures of life. He relished spending time outdoors, particularly fishing and sharing quality moments at the camp with his sons. A man of routine, Remi cherished his morning coffee gatherings with his close-knit circle of coffee buddies. Above all, his devotion to his family was unwavering, and he treasured every moment spent in their company.
Those left behind to cherish his memory are his loving companion of 29 years, Beth Grant; his children, William Grant-Gardemal and Alyssa; Ryan Gardemal and Adrianne; Benji Gardemal and Lindsay; Tonya G. Durand and Chris and Brandy G. Arnaud and Eric; twelve grandchildren, Dre Legendre, Spence Legendre, Reese Legendre, Ty Gardemal, Cory Gardemal, Luke Durand, Ellie Durand, Bentley Gardemal, Cullen Broussard, Peyton Broussard, Brayden Grant-Gardemal and Jacey Schexnaider and two great grandchildren, Ana Legendre and Simeon Legendre.
Along with his parents he is preceded in death by his sister, Elaine G. Plessala and his brother, Scott Gardemal.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers are William Grant-Gardemal, Ryan Gardemal, Benji Gardemal, Dre Legendre, Luke Durand, Christopher Plessala, and Mason Whitsitt.
Erne “Nub” Plessala, Jr., Douglas Primeaux, Darrell Poirier, Johnny Francis, Todd Faucheaux and Tommy Thibodeaux are honorary pallbearers.
