CATAHOULA – A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted for Marcel “Boz” Joseph Bonin, age 81, at 10:00 am on Wednesday, June 3, 2020 at St. Rita’s Catholic Church. Fr. Bill Melancon will officiate. Interment will follow at Our Lady of the Lake Mausoleum with military honors being performed by the Acadiana Veterans Honor Guard.
Visitation will take place in Catahoula at The Dion Hall on Tuesday from 3:00 pm until 9:00 pm with the rosary at 6:30 pm. The visitiation will reopen on Wednesday at 8:00 am until service time.
A native and resident of St. Martinville, Mr. Bonin passed away on Monday, June 1, 2020 at Iberia Medical Center.
Born on November 1, 1938 to the late Cezaire and Yolande Latiolais Bonin, Marcel was one of 6 children. Marcel, better known as “Boz”, was a kind and easygoing man who enjoyed the simple life of country living. Boz proudly served his country in the United States Armed Forces and was honorably discharged. A hard working man, Boz was a boat captain in the oil and gas industry for most of his career. He was a devout catholic and parishioner of St. Rita’s Catholic Church and served as Eucharistic minister. Boz loved the outdoors and could often be found riding horses, motorcycles, and ATVs as well as farming his land and tending to the garden. Most of all, he loved his family and spending time with them. A loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother and friend, Boz will be truly and deeply missed by all those who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Dorothy “Dot” Poche Bonin; only son, Curt F. Bonin (Tammy) of St. Martinville, daughters, Cindy B. Bourque (Kevin) of St. Martinville, Kathy B. Fuselier (Neal) of St. Martinville, Tammy B. Pesson of Lafayette, and Marcie B. Romero (Jon) of St. Martinville; brothers, Ronald “T-Ron” Bonin and Edwin “T-Ed” Bonin; 10 grandchildren, Cobi Fuselier, Ami Fuselier, Jessica Racca, Brady Bonin, Brittany Bonin, Chelsie Bourque, Kera Keohavong, Evan Pesson, Trey Barras, and Taylor “T.J” Romero; and 11 great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Cezaire and Yolande Latiolais Bonin; and sisters, Vickie “Poopae” Bonin Prados, Barbara Bonin, and Peggy Bonin.
Pallbearers will be Curt Bonin, Brady Bonin, Evan Pesson, Trey Barras, Cobi Fuselier, and Taylor “T.J” Romero.
Honorary pallbearers will be Ronald “T-Ron” Bonin and Edwin “T-Ed” Bonin.
