Mr. Marglous grew up in the DeMun area of Clayton, Missouri and graduated from Clayton High School. Mr. Marglous attended Washington University in St. Louis. An intelligent and highly-capable student, Mr. Marglous graduated in three years. Mr. Marglous was a member of the Sigma Alpha Mu Fraternity. Shortly thereafter, Mr. Marglous attended Washington University in St. Louis' School of Law, earning his Juris Doctor degree. Mr. Marglous then attend New York University for his Master of Laws (LL.M), but left school prior to graduating and joined the Army. Mr. Marglous served the Army in France working for NATO during the post-WW2 reconstruction of Europe. Mr. Marglous traveled Europe extensively during these years, often with his favorite aunt, Leona Fishman, with many of his fondest memories having occurred while living in Paris near the Champs-Élysées and driving around a newly purchased Volkswagen.
Upon his return back to St. Louis, Mr. Marglous began his legal career working for the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). Mr. Marglous met a number of life-long friends working for the IRS in the federal building in downtown St. Louis. After the IRS, Mr. Marglous started his private law practice. Mr. Marglous was always an advocate of helping “the little guy” and believed strongly that a legal career was a “profession” and to treat each client and interaction with respect and dignity.
Mr. Marglous was a dedicated father and husband. Mr. Marglous had a passion for travel and took his family on many trips to Africa, Asia, Mexico, Europe, and the Caribbean. Mr. Marglous was philanthropic and setup a foundation (Sawyer and Jean Marglous Foundation) to focus on helping organizations that focused on providing services within the St. Louis community. Mr. Marglous enjoyed tennis and was a charter member of the Creve Coeur Racquet Club. Most of all, Mr. Marglous enjoyed spending time with family and close friends.
Mr. Marglous is survived by his beloved wife of 39 years, Theda Jean Marglous, son Bernard (“Bernie”) (Beryl) Marglous, daughter Melinda (Jesse) Maas, grandchildren Skylar Theda Maas and Sawyer Henry Maas, and brother Ray Marglous, and brother-in-law Aubrey Yawitz, along with many other family members in St. Louis. He is preceded in death by his parents, Leon and Rosalind Marglous, his sister Juanita Yawitz, sister-in-law Sharon Marglous and brother-in-law Harold Clifton Goodrum.
Sawyer was beloved by all who knew him. He lived by a simple motto of “try to do your best and not hurt people” – we will miss his grace, dignity, and everyday humility. He was the best.
