Rose Ann Ross, age 104, of Saint Charles, formerly of St. Louis, Missouri passed away on Sunday, December 4, 2022. She was born on October 28, 1918. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband Earl H. Ross, her sons Lenard (Frances) and John, and her brother Edward Henry (Martha, and their sons Robert (Georgette survives) and James). RoseAnn is survived by: her children: Kathleen Keusenkothen (Richard), Patricia Ross (the late Robert Knowles), Joseph Ross, James Ross (Deborah); her grandchildren: Benjamin (Lisa), Matthew (Ann Marie), Bobby (Kelli), Jeremy, Stephanie, Joey, Shaun (Katie), Mary; and several great-grandchildren, her many friends and neighbors, and especially friends at Fairwinds.
Rose Ann's parents were dirt poor Irish immigrants when they arrived at Ellis Island in the early 1900's. When Rose Ann was just 4 years old, her mother died in child birth and Rose Ann and her brother were sent to orphanages, one for girls and the other, boys.
At the age of 9, Rose Ann was reunited with her family. After completing 2 years of high school, Rose Ann began her working career as the sole breadwinner for her depression era family. Posing as an 18 year old, this 16 year old applied and became a real "Rosie the riveter" at Wagoner electric. She thought she might have been given the job because she just happened to be a talented catcher, “in a league of her own!” She loved working at Wagoner where she soon advanced to an inspector.
With the advent of social security, and the requirement of declaring actual age, Rose Ann feared her “secret”would cost her her job. Wagoner electric knew a good technician when they had one, thus her work continued until she decided to devote herself to “family and consumer science,” full time.
Rose Ann married the handsome neighbor boy who courted her for years. Together they raised 6 kids and launched numerous families.
Her professional accomplishments include: incredible mother, homemaker, primary care giver for her injured adult son, real estate broker, appraisal preparer, president and Executive officer of the miniature guild of St. Louis, volunteer nurse's helper and Pride of Pattonville recipient, volunteer for newborns in need, crocheting move than 1,000 booties, each one cuter than the next.
Rose Ann was an inspiration to everyone who met her. Her positive, resilient, grateful and humble spirit serves as a shining example of what it means to be a great human being! The world is a better place because of Rose Ann Ross!
