Foster, Robert Frederick on Tuesday, May 8, 2012. He was born October 5, 1938, in North St. Louis, Missouri to Martin and Loretta (nee Camp) Foster. Beloved father of Mercury Roberts, Jeffrey (Julie) Foster and Julia Foster; dear grandfather of Robyn, Amanda, Timothy, William and Caroline; loving companion of Mary Stodden, former husband of Marilyn Fisher Foster and good friend to so many. He was preceded in death by his unborn son, Michael Foster, his parents and his doting grandparents, Robert and Hilda “Pony” Foster.
Bob graduated from Normandy High School in 1956 and from Washington University in 1960. He began his career with American Oil Company, spent many years with Shell Oil Company and finished his career with Ralston Purina. After retirement, he was actively involved in and held various leadership positions with Senior Olympics, Senior Softball, Purina Bowling League, Hearing Loss Association of Greater St. Louis, Advocates for Hearing Accessibility, the RTR Captioning Committee, and pick-up basketball games at the JCC. His greatest loves included the St. Louis Cardinals, golf with his friends, and his cat, Miss Cleo.
Among Bob’s proudest accomplishments were being inducted into the St. Louis Amateur Baseball Hall of Fame in April, 1998, and being selected to carry the torch for the 2004 Summer Olympics. He also received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Missouri Commission for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing and the Walter “Doc” Eberhardt Award for his volunteerism with the Senior Olympics.
At Mr. Foster’s request, he donated his remains to Washington University School of Medicine. Memorial service on Tuesday, May 15, 2012, 7:00 p.m. at Kriegshauser West Mortuary, 9450 Olive Blvd., Olivette, MO with visitation from 4:00 p.m. until time of service. Captioning will be provided for the deaf and hard of hearing.
