MESSMER, Nicholas Peter, 92 of St. Louis, MO, fortified with the sacraments of Holy Mother Church, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 26, 2015. Nick was the beloved husband of the late Rose (nee: Rottneck); loving father of Susan (Jim) Hubert-Jeep and Terry (Kathleen) Messmer; beloved grandfather of John (Christmas) Hubert, Stephanie (Dave) Anderson, Steven Messmer, Samantha Messmer, and Patrick Messmer; loving great grandfather of Nick and Naomi Hubert and Ian, Dylan and Nolan Anderson; loving brother of the late Elizabeth Pidgeon, the late Ann Kollar, the late Eva Hasenfrantz; special friend of Mary Lee Mallett; dear uncle and friend to many.
Nick was born in Sacalas Romania. At sixteen he came to the United States and at eighteen he was drafted into the Army. He served during World War II in the Pacific Theater earning three Bronze Stars in the island hoping campaign. Shortly after returning home from the War he married the love of his life Rose. For many years Nick worked for Stocker Construction as a superintendent before he retired. Nick was an avid golfer and bowler. He also was an excellent dancer and would dance to any tune. In his later years Nick moved to Delmar Gardens South where he found new life after the death of his beloved Rose. With lots of activity and fun Nick enjoyed these later years. Nick’s family would like to thank the staff and volunteers of Delmar Gardens for all the love, care and concern they showed Nick and the family these many years.
SERVICES: A visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. on Tuesday June 2, 2015 at Hoffmeister South County, 1515 Lemay Ferry Rd., Lemay, MO 63125. Mass of the Resurrection will be offered at 10 a.m., on Wednesday, at St. Simon the Apostle Catholic Church 11011 Mueller Rd, St. Louis, MO 63123. An interment service with military honors will be held at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery following the funeral.
