Nancy Hayden Hobson

Beloved wife of William H. Hobson; dear mother of W. Haskins Hobson, Jr., Carlsbad, NM, Sarah R. Hobson, St. Louis, Laura R. (Michael) Bond, Clayton, J. Monty (Bridgette) Hobson, Kirkwood; loving Nana of Hayden and Henry Bond, Bella Ammel, and Sloane Hobson; sister of Lucy E. (Carl) Stinson, Bath, ME, Susan Bygrave, Portland, ME, and Robert C. (Cathy) Bygrave, Lexington, KY; daughter of Robert Bygrave and Lucy E. (Denio) Bygrave, deceased.

She was born March 17, 1945 in Lincoln, MA. She moved to Wexford, PA for her high school years. She attended Elmira College, and then the University of Virginia, where she received an M.A. in English literature. Nancy and Bill were married for 48 years, lived in Bronxville, NY for 10 years, and in Clayton, MO for 38 years. While raising her children, she pursued her passion for writing, becoming an adjunct professor at STLCOP and UMSL. She started her own business, Writer-in-Residence, through which she captured family and corporate histories. Her favorite writing assignment was for Herbaria, an organic soap maker in St. Louis.

Nancy’s faith in Jesus guided her way of life, and with a servant’s heart she cared for many people through prayer, cooking, visits, hospitality, and love. She had a passion for connecting with people in all walks of life and cultures. Nancy will be remembered for making each person in her life feel special. Her blue eyes, warm smile, and open arms will forever be missed.

A Memorial Celebration of Nancy’s life will be held on Sunday, July 1, 2018 at 3 PM, at The Crossing, 114 N. Eatherton Rd, Chesterfield, MO 63005. Contributions may be made to Lwala Community Alliance or Loaves and Fishes for St. Louis. Floral tributes should be delivered directly to the church.
