Mike was certainly a “Larger than life guy”, such a fun and energetic person.  Now he can talk to Jerry Garcia and go to all of the concerts that he wants to! I remember when Jerry Garcia died Mike had candles burning all over his house, he was in mourning. Lots of fun times with him. 

Unfortunately, John and I cannot make the service, we are out of town.  Kim and Eric please accept our condolences.

I've known Mike for over 20 years.  First as a co worker, as my supervisor and always as my friend.  I will always remember Mike's full of life personality, his music that gathered everone together in fun times and tough times.  His love of family and friends, his love of this beautiful earth.    He had such a positive effect on me, Lynn and so many friends.  My heart goes out to Kim and Eric for their loss and the void they share with so many people that Mike has touched.

Dear Kim and Family Members,

I  really do not have the right words to say at this time, but know that I care about you and I am sorry for your loss.  I feel like I knew Mike since Kim talked about him so much.  He was in a band and traveled recently.  I thought I would like to meet him someday since he sounded so interesting and full of life. Living life to the fullest.  Please know that I share your loss and I am here to listen or lend a shoulder.  Sending a virtual hug and sharing the tears you are certainly shedding.  Indeed, it is hard not to cry.

I met Mike through my best friend Kim, his loving partner. I will miss giving him a hard time. I remember when we all went to the Grand Canyon together and he stopped at every scenic turnout to look at every mountain because he thought they were beautiful. I teased him every time he came to visit after that-look Mike a mountain and there is a rock and a tree.  He  so loved nature.  Who will I buy those wild shirts for now. I am so glad you and Kim found each other. You two had such a loving relationship and it is what she needed in her life. My heart is broken that you were taken so soon but you were and always will be a bright light in our lives. We miss you terribly. Love always, Barb

Mike always had a great story to share and a smile to match.  My favorite memory of him actually is something I can't remember but my cousin Mike assured me happened.  Our Grandpa Albrecht apparently took Mike (who was probably about 14-15 at the time), Cynthia (my sister about 3 or 4) and I (age 1 or 2) for a horse drawn buggy ride.  At one point, Grandpa lost the reins to the horse.  Grandpa was holding me in one of his arms so Grandpa told Mike he needed to get the reins.  Mike proceeded to give my Grandpa one of those looks like "Are you crazy?"  So Grandpa with his free hand grabbed Mike by the back of his pants and held in over the front edge of the buggy.  Dangling between the buggy and the horse, Mike grabbed the reins and saved the day.  Grandpa made Mike swear not to tell our Mom what happened.  Mike said he was impressed how strong and large Grandpa's hands were.   This story always makes me smile.  It also may explain why when I was growing up, I thought the Mike was like a super hero.

I was too young to remember the situation, but the way Mike told this runway horse story was mesmerizing.  I’m going to document here what I remember about the tale….

Cousin Mike was visiting Grandma and Grandpa Albrecht’s farm.  Grandpa Albrecht had a horse drawn buggy that he rode around the neighborhood. He was giving Mike, my sister, Denise, and I a ride.  Mike was maybe 13. I was 3 and my sister was a one year old sitting on Grandpa’s lap. Somehow Grandpa lost his grip on the horse’s reigns and essentially lost control of the moving  buggy.  Mike saved us all.  Grandpa, while holding my sister on his knee, grabbed Mike by the back of his overalls and lifted him out into the buggy’s narrow ironworks that harnessed the horse. While the buggy was jumping around the bumpy rural roads, Mike walk the “plank” from the buggy to the horse to grab the reigns and then back so Grandpa, still holding my sister on his knee, could gain control of the moving buggy.  Apparently Grandpa had to do a bit of convincing to get Mike to let go of the buggy to reach the reigns.  I’m sure glad Mike found the courage.   

Mike was a great story teller.  I wish I could hear him tell the story one more time.   



Mr. Mike was a smart man and a great grandpa but out of everything he taught me, he never taught me how to live without him.

Some of my favorite memories as a kid was uncle Mike taking us boys out to Indian Creek to fish. You will be missed uncle Mike.

         So sad to  have lost Mike as a cousin and a friend, We always looked forward to seeing him come out to the farm he had so many questions and wanted to figure out how everything worked, So much has changed since he came up and hung out with grandpa in the horse and buggy days, He was always up for anything so  caring so giving, God bless rest in pease,

My memories of Mike doing what he loved with guys he loved.

I went to Ranken with Doug, he was my lab partner for 2 years, after graduation I had the pleasure of meeting Mike at Young Dental.  We had stories, common interests and hell he was one of the people to by me my first 6 pack on my 21st birthday.  I unfortunately haven't spoken to him in years, but he will always hold a special place in my heart for being so warm and welcoming to myself and everyone he met.

Mike, it was a pleasure meeting you. As a boss you were the best, more of a coworker than a boss. Super intelligent dude, you never made anyone feel less important or less valued. And as a band mate you were the best. Lots of fun memories playing music and just talking at times and sharing a bottle of whiskey. You will be missed and it was a pleasure jamming with you and the fellas.

Mike was one of my favorite coworkers at Steris! His love for music was something we shared together. I gave him tickets to the St. Louis Symphony, and he would always be thankful and said that he enjoyed the orchestra programs. RIP my friend! I never got a chance to sing with your band!


I'm going to miss you my friend. You always made me smile. Some of my favorite memories are the times I spent with you and Gina. I'll carry you in my heart. See you at a porch party in heaven!


Mike, I am so very grateful to have known you.  You were my work husband at Young.  You always were so good at hearing us and then you would provide great advice.  You were always so very proud of your children.  You were fun to go out and listen to as the band sung.  We talked frequently about music.  You would mediate the radio usage between, as you said, “race riot radio or right wing nut jobs”.  You were the best Uncle Fester.  You will be missed.  Hug Doug, Gina, and your daughter in heaven.  Prayers for you all.  Eric, your Dad loved you so very much!!!!  Jeanette
