May 2, 1955 – October 7, 2024
Michael ("Mike") Evans passed away unexpectedly, leaving behind a lifetime of memories filled with love, laughter and countless stories. He was a devoted Christian who lived a life dedicated to God and prayer. He loved deeply and generously and he never met a stranger.
His passion for music was truly remarkable. A veritable encyclopedia of band trivia, concerts, and albums, Mike could take you on a detailed journey through music history, whether discussing a concert from 1975 or the origins of a beloved band. He loved the Beatles and one of his favorite pastimes was spinning records.
Michael often began with, “To make a long story short,” even though his tales were anything but brief. He was a lifelong learner immersing himself in books and newspapers, always keeping up with the daily news and weather. He loved to share what he learned, often retelling his favorite stories with the same enthusiasm, even if you had heard them before. He frequently bought lottery tickets so he would often be checking his numbers hoping for a big win.
Mikes most treasured time was spent with family. He loved celebrating holidays and enjoyed family dinners. He never came empty handed, often bringing his beloved styrofoam cooler filled with Vess soda. Sometimes he would surprise the kids with a dollar or two. He might even bring his record player or boom box and play DJ for the evening.
He enjoyed watching Saturday Night Live, Nascar and relaxing with his dogs Tinkers and Mickey. He liked walking around chatting with his neighbors and helping them with what he could.
His quirky sense of humor will be deeply missed by everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.
He was preceded in death by his parents Norman Evans and Edith Evans.
Michael is survived by his wife Sherry Scanlon, his children Nichole Combest (Cliff Combest) and Trisha O'Bryant, his grandchildren Scott Lawson, Alexandria Lawson and Benjamin Lawson and his sister Kathy Fout (Bobby Fout).
He will be remembered for his generous spirit, his passion for music, and the stories that will continue to resonate in the hearts of his family and friends.
A visitation for Michael will be held Tuesday, October 15, 2024 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Hoffmeister South County Chapel, 1515 Lemay Ferry Road, St. Louis, MO 63125.
