Mary Jane Mahoney

Mahoney, Muriel Mary Jane Elizabeth Gubser was called to Heaven on April 29, 2017. Mary was born on December 19, 1926, the third of four children of Mr. and Mrs. John H. Gubser of St. Louis. She was known to her siblings as "Boots." As a child, she developed a lifelong love of horses; in later years, she cherished an annual trip with her mother to Churchill Downs for the Kentucky Derby.

After graduating from St. John the Baptist High School, Mary worked as a secretary and office manager until she married Bertrand Mahoney in November 1957. They had three children. When the children were all in school, she resumed her secretarial work part-time. Mary loved cruises, tending her roses, reading, Broadway musicals, and classic movies. She avidly collected commemorative glassware and other knickknacks.

Mary was preceded in death by her elder brother, Harold Gubser and his wife Josephine; her elder sister LaVerne Adams and her husband Raymond; and her son-in-law George Sullens, Jr. She is survived by her husband Bertrand; her younger brother, Dr. John L. Gubser; her children Paul Mahoney, Michelle Sullens, and Craig Mahoney, and daughter-in-law Julia Mahoney; grandchildren Brendan and Matthew Mahoney, George Sullens III, and Amy Henke; and great-grandchildren Evan, Leah, and Brooke Henke.

SERVICE: Visitation Thursday, May 4, 2017, from 4:00 pm - 8:00 pm at Hoffmeister Colonial Mortuary, 6464 Chippewa Street, Funeral Mass Friday, May 5, 9:30 am at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church, 5020 Rhodes Avenue at Kingshighway.
