Fortified with the Sacraments of the Holy Mother church, Margaret Mary Wegman, age 69, of Affton, Missouri passed away on Saturday, February 25, 2023 after a month-long stay in Mercy St. Louis hospital. Margaret was born October 5, 1953 to the late Leo and Ginevra "Ginny" (nee Servant) Smith.
Margaret will be greatly missed by her husband, James “Jim” Wegman, along with her children; Gretchen (Denis) Gavrilin, Timothy “Tim” and Edward “Ed” Wegman. She was a loving grandma to Natalie, Madison, Dominic, and Dean. Margaret is also survived by her siblings; Patrick (Gloria) Smith, Sharon Smith, and Kathleen (Bill) Petersen, as well as her nieces, and nephews; Lizzy Petersen (Sean and Sidney), Theresa Finder (Nate), Leo Smith (Melaina), Monica, Angela, and Sister Mary Elizabeth OSC. She was a cousin, and dear friend to many.
Known for her wry humor and dedication to service, Margaret was an active volunteer for Mother of Twins for more than 30 years. She worked as a registered dietician for 40 years, most recently for People’s Health Center and Mercy Hospital’s JFK Clinic serving the uninsured and underinsured. She also loved to crochet hats for newborns at Mercy hospital.
She graduated from Ursuline Academy Girls Catholic high school in 1971 and from Fontbonne University Dietetics program.
A visitation for Margaret will be held Sunday, March 5, 2023 from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Hoffmeister South County Chapel, 1515 Lemay Ferry Road, St. Louis, MO 63125. A Mass of Christian burial will occur Monday, March 6, 2023 at 11:30 AM at Seven Holy Founders Catholic Church, 6737 S. Rock Hill Road, Affton, MO 63123. Margaret will be laid to rest following mass at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, 2900 Sheridan, St. Louis, MO 63125.
