Linda Irene (Luebbe) Lehr was born in Seward, Nebraska, on March 26,1943, to Herbert and Irene (Schark) Luebbe. She was baptized at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Goehner, Nebraska, on April 8, 1943. When the family moved east of Seward, she attended Saint John Lutheran School and Church, and was confirmed on April 14, 1957. Linda attended Seward High School for two years, then Utica High School, graduating with the Class of 1961.
After graduation, Linda worked at Concordia Teachers College in the food service department and later as a secretary to the Placement Director. In 1971, her boss took a job as Director of Placement for the Missouri Synod Board for Parish Education, and offered Linda the opportunity to work in Saint Louis, Missouri. Later on, she became the Administrative Assistant for the Board of Higher Education Services.
In Saint Louis, Linda was a member of Timothy Lutheran Church, where she taught Sunday School for 20 years and also served as Sunday School Director. She met her future husband, Gene Lehr, at a Lutheran Young Adults social gathering and they married in 1991. Linda joined Holy Cross Lutheran Church after they were married, and she continued to serve in many capacities. She had a gift for encouraging fellowship, and with her friend, Renee Gibbs, helped facilitate an ongoing Bible study. Linda earned a Bachelor's degree in Industrial and Organizational Psychology from Washington University in 1991. In 2005, Linda was recognized for her service to Lutheran Education and awarded the Crest of Christ Award from Concordia University Nebraska. After her retirement in 2012, she continued to serve by volunteering for the Lutheran Elementary School Association.
For many years, Linda and Gene made frequent trips back to Nebraska to visit family. They also enjoyed hosting friends and family in their home in Saint Louis.
Linda entered into eternal rest with Jesus on September 26, 2024, surrounded by her dearest friends and family. She was 81 years and 6 months old.
Linda was preceded in death by her parents, infant brothers, Roger and Rodney Luebbe, and two brothers-in-law, Steven Young and Roger Lehr.
She is survived by her husband, Gene Lehr of Saint Louis, one sister, Kate Young of Seward, Nebraska, one sister-in-law, Jean Lehr of Saint Louis, two nephews, Nathan Young of Portland, Oregon, and Mark Young (Andie) of Lincoln, Nebraska, one niece, Grace Young (Will Buller) of Portland, Oregon, two great-nieces and one great-nephew.
Linda will be remembered as a loving wife, a beloved sister, a caring aunt, devoted godmother, and a faithful friend.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 2, 2024 from 4-8 pm at Hoffmeister Colonial Mortuary, 6464 Chippewa Street, Saint Louis, Missouri 63109. A Funeral Service for Linda will be held Thursday, October 3 at 10 am, at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 2650 Miami Street, Saint Louis, Missouri 63118. Interment immediately following at Concordia Cemetery, 4209 Bates Street, Saint Louis, Missouri, 63116.
