Born on March 12, 1940 in Atlanta, Georgia, Joel graduated from Washington University in St. Louis and entered the US Navy. He served 2 tours of duty in Vietnam aboard the USS Enterprise as an A6 Intruder pilot/navigator. After leaving the Navy, he went to work with the Department of Defense.
Anyone who truly knew Joel knew that behind the serious face, he was a marshmallow with a huge heart.
He loved his family fiercely and his grandchildren were the light of his life.
Beloved husband of his soulmate Caroline, father of David and Deborah (Eric); grandfather of Joshua (Debbie), Rachel, and Matthew; dear brother to Phyllis Nalick (Don) and the late Alan Weissman (Janice); dear brother-in-law of the late Saundra Scissors (Bob), Susan Heller (Stanley) and Larry Librach (Jane); dear uncle, great-uncle, cousin and friend to many.
Graveside service on Monday, February 14 at 2 PM at United Hebrew Cemetery, 7855 Canton Avenue in St. Louis. The service also will be available via Live Stream. Please see below for Live Stream details.
