The year before her death I flew to St Louis to visit her. It was a wonderful weekend filled with schmoozing about everything & anything, but most importantly, we laughed so hard that we cried❣️ We talked for hours about the past, the present, & the future.  Joan will always be in my heart & my mind. I miss her every day.

I am so sorry to read that Joan passed away.  Our fathers were great friends so I have known Joan and the Marcus family my entire life.  Joan was always so nice to me! I had seen her somewhere right before my son's Bar Mitzvah so she was able to attend.  I enjoyed her Facebook postings.  My condolences to all.

I had the pleasure of working with Joan for all of her years at the VA. I remember the first time I met her I was in awe of her presence and vast knowledge regarding tumor registry.  
I remember when she was hired I actually applied for her position and she was chosen as she was the most qualified for the job.  :)
She was witty and always had a smile. Over the years I saw her adopt Julie and saw Julie grow up in pictures and memories that she shared. I will never forget her.  My thoughts and prayers to all of the family wishing you healing and peace during this difficult time. 

So very sorry to hear about Joan's death. I especially send condolences to Julie whom Joan spoke of so much. Joan and I corresponded a number of times the last few years as my daughter went through the adoption process twice.
I hadn't seen Joan in 40 years until we got together about five years ago for dinner. So glad we had that final time together.

Joan was a dear friend and one of my earliest of “legacy friends” made in the early 80’s, after moving to St Louis. We played racquetball regularly with (late) Tom Gilmore, Stan Barskey and Mindy Keyser, often followed by many laughs and a late meal at either Mama’s Ristaurante or Frank and Helens….Joan was the glue that kept many of us united…Smart, loving, strong and passionate about friends, family and life in general…if you were lucky enough to become a friend to Joan, you were blessed with the love of a loyal and giving friend…
My condolences, especially to Sandy, Julie and to those who were fortunate to have been touched by Joan!  

Joan was a wonderful and thoughtful friend. I met Joan at Mizzou graduate dorm, 1971 to 1974. We were part of a very diverse and close group of friends and shared plenty of adventures. I moved to Europe and did not see her again, but we stayed in touch and she would never forget to remind me of the crazy things we did for birthdays. 
I am really going to miss that.

I was blessed to have Joan as a dear friend for over 45 years. I first met Joan at Hillel at the University of Missouri at Columbia back in 1972.   I connected with Joan a few years later in St. Louis when we attended a social group for Jewish singles. Joan and I became close friends. 

Joan was witty, creative, wise, and down-to-earth. We shared so many milestones in our lives. She was a bridesmaid in my wedding in 1978 and I was a bridesmaid in her wedding in 1990.  We supported each other as we transitioned from brides to mothers. We celebrated birthdays, anniversaries, and our children's accomplishments together and comforted each other through challenges and losses in our lives. 

I will truly miss my dear friend, Joan. Her memory will be a blessing to all who loved and knew her.

I have known Joan for a long time.  I am proud to say, that Joan was my friend.  Joan  and I shared the same birthdays.  I called her my "astro twin".  Our mothers even shared the same room in the hospital when we were born.  That was our first meeting, even though we weren't aware of each other.  Destiny put us together in Sunday school (United  Hebrew Temple).  We later met each other again when we both attended University City High School.  Joan was such a nice friend.  Because I came from another school district, U. City was new to me.  Joan helped me transition easily and meet a lot of new people.  I loved Joan and I know she will be missed by many people.

Joan was my first cousin. So many memories growing up.  She will be greatly missed. Sending prayers to her family. 

I went to Hawthorne Elementary School and was in Girl Scouts with Joan. We reconnected through Facebook in the past few years. She was always a great friend and I loved hearing her stories of Julie.  So sorry to hear of her passing.  

Joan was a wonderful neighbor across the street. We will miss her smile in the mornings as she sat on her front porch reading. She loved her family and community and will be missed by many.

My heartfelt condolences to Julie & Sandy, who were, very much loved, by Joan. There was an instant connection between I & Joan  when we met through the volunteer group, L'Dor V'Dor, more than 44 years ago.  Her intelligent banter and exuberance for life belied any notion of her hearing impediment. Her wicked sense of humor would leave us with tears in our eyes, gasping for breath. She was a true friend in every sense of the word; with every beat of her heart.  From her flying in to Houston to introduce me to her new daughter, to her readiness to fly to Houston to care for me after my initial heart surgery, there was nothing shallow or false about her. She was the most beautifully honest and caring person I've ever known, and I've always felt honored to have her as my friend.  The last time we were together was September 2019, when I flew to St Louis to spend  time with Joan. It was wonderful to see her happy and excited about having had successful surgery for a cochlear implant. She related to me the wealth of sounds she was hearing for the very first time, and for me to just imagine never having heard a clock ticking brought me to tears.  Sadly, she left this world all too soon.
