Grace “Sachi” Yasin Liao, age 75, passed away on Sunday, May 5, 2013 after a long and brave struggle with breast cancer. She was born on May 10, 1937 to Dr. Shing-Fu and Mrs. Pao-Chu Yen. On Christmas Day in 1959, Grace married the love of her life, Dr. Kun Twu Liao, and they spent the next 53 years happily side by side. They had 3 children: Angela, Jimmy, and Marjorie. In 1964, Grace followed Kun to the United States, where he had come for his residency a year earlier. They moved to St. Louis County in 1969. Grace was a loving wife and mother and an active member in the Taiwanese community. She was co-owner of Ron and Shirley’s Italian Restaurant at Union Station from 1992 to 1998. Grace was an elder and an active member of the Taiwanese Presbyterian Church of Greater St. Louis.
Grace leaves behind many loving family members and friends, including her husband, Dr. Kun Liao; their children and their families: Angela Urdanoff and Chuck Zarriello and her sons, Spenser and Alex, and their father, Steve Urdanoff; Jimmy and Grace Liao and their children, Meg, Stefan, and Henry, and Meg’s children, Elise and Adelyn; Margie and Andy Leith and their daughters, Sachi and Lucy; her dear sisters, Chih Mei Chang and Judy Liu; her loving brothers, Shing-I, Shing-Er, and Shing-Sun Yen; and many nieces and nephews and dear friends. Grace was predeceased by her parents and her sister, Carmen.
