Glen J. Smith, passed peacefully on Nov 7, 2020 at 88 years. He is preceded in death by his parents, James Smith and Mary Hindrichs Jost, and beloved wife, Audrey Carver Smith. Glen was the devoted father of Linda (Gary) Chatham, and Michael (Kathy) Smith, cherished grandfather of Sean Smith (Tony Russell), Amanda Shipman, Shannon (Justin) Groom, and Wendy Walden (Davey Chandler), and great grandchildren, Jaylin, Khloe, and Aidan. Dearest brother of Shirley (Glenn) Clark , Gerald (Sid) Smith, and William (Rose) Jost; our dear uncle, great-uncle, cousin and friend to many.
Glen grew up in south St. Louis during the depression and WWII. His family moved often, causing the children to change schools yearly. But he was quite intelligent and was able to graduate high school at age 16. He joined the Marines at 18, and met his beloved Audrey while home on leave. They started writing during his service, and dated upon his return. Once a civilian again, Glen learned the electrical trade from his Hindrichs uncles, and it served as a successful career. He married Audrey, and they were married for 58 joyful years. They were wonderful, loving parents to their children, Linda & Michael, and were over the moon in love with their grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Glen was a devoted member of Carondelet United Church of Christ for 65 years. He was a proud veteran of the United States Marine Corps (Korea), and an I.B.E.W. Local 1 union electrician for 60+ years, eventually becoming an owner/partner of Bell Electric . Glen loved fishing with Audrey at their 2nd home at Tablerock Lake, and spending their vacations in Las Vegas a couple times each year. They always joked upon their return home from Vegas that they lost enough of our inheritance to buy the casino a new chandelier.
Glen also enjoyed golf and hunting with his buddies, and spending time with family and friends. Glen is deeply loved and will be missed by all.
