With great sorrow and bittersweet gratitude, the Thompson, Stone, and Meyer families announce the peaceful passing of our kind, colorful, and wonderfully generous wife, mother, sister and friend, Fancine “Fanci” (Meyer) Thompson, on Thursday, March 16, 2023.
Born July 27, 1938 in Springfield, IL to Joe and Shirley Meyer and brother Brian. Growing up mainly on Corbet Street in St. Louis, MO, the family eventually moved to Canton Avenue in University City. Brian and Fanci were close as kids playing “Cowboys and Indians” (Fanci always the Indian because Brian said so!). The cheerful siblings enjoyed ice skating, movies, and swimming in the ocean on Florida beach vacations. They were inseparable before heading to university and starting their own families.
Gifted with many talents, Fanci started piano at a young age. She was proficient in her favorite, Chopin sonatas, and at 15 years-old would often be perched behind her Steinway grand. A life-long lover of music, she passed this affection on to her sons and grandchildren.
Fancine (Meyer Stone) graduated from Washington University June 6, 1960 with her Bachelor of Music degree and a member of sororities Mu Phi Epsilon (professional women’s music) and Sigma Delta Tau (historically Jewish women). Married then to Maurice Stone, their sons Darryl, Randy, and Cory came into the world soon after.
After divorcing, Fanci and Deane Thompson married on July 5, 1987. They shared a dynamic partnership discovering the world together and enjoying the arts. Finding mutual excitement and interest in learning about each others religions, they incorporated that synergy into their marriage with exuberance and curiosity. Fanci and Deane were generous and loving friends, the absolute best neighbors, and delighted everyone they encountered.
Fanci loved to dress and decorate her home with vibrant colors and artwork. A designer of jewelry, she sold and gifted many pieces to friends and family. Her personality was energetic, buzzing with light and style, and brought others into her warmth. There was nothing better than getting one of Fanci’s hugs, an embrace of safety and love.
The brightest part of Fancine’s life were her boys. Her face, eyes, smile and laughter would erupt with joy when they called or especially when they walked into the room. Nothing made Fanci happier than seeing Darryl, Randy, and Cory wonderfully thrive, experience peace, and find love.
Preceded in death by the love of her life, Deane Thompson, who passed away September 30, 2021.
Survived by her sons: Darryl and wife Jennifer and their children Jonah and Linnea; Randy and daughter Danielle; Cory and wife Diane; brother: Brian and wife Judy and family; step-daughter Suzanne, her husband Kevin and their children, Connor, Zachary and Sydney.
A memorial service will be held 11:00 AM, Wednesday, March 22 at United Hebrew Congregation in Creve Coeur, 13788 Conway Rd, St. Louis, MO 63141. Dressing in vibrant, bright colored clothing encouraged.
Family to attend interment immediately following at United Hebrew Cemetery.
In lieu of gifts, Fancine’s family requests that you give generously to the Parkinson’s Foundation www.parkinson.org
