Benjamin Mkrtychyan, born January 8th, 1922, passed away on Saturday, December 28th, 2019 at the age of 97. Son of the late Shavarsh and Iskhui Mkrtychyan; beloved husband of Elmira Mkrtychyan; dearest father of Garri (Bella) Mkrtychyan and Zara (Michael) Bunyatov; loving grandfather of Evelina Mkrtychyan and Anna (fiancé Salvatore La Ferla) Bunyatova; relative and friend to many.
Benjamin was born in Zangezur, Armenia. At the age of 18 he began to serve during World War II, where he was ranked as an Officer, suffered several major wounds, and was a prisoner in four concentration camps. He helped in leading the French Resistance against Nazi Germany. After the war, he spent most of his life in Baku, Azerbaijan with his family.
In 1995, Benjamin immigrated to America with his family and became a big part of the Armenian/Russian community in St. Louis. More than anything he loved to entertain and be surrounded by his loved ones. Regardless of the hardships he endured, he always maintained a positive outlook on life. He will always be remembered as a hero and role model to many.
SERVICES: Prayers 9am on Tuesday, December 31, 2019 at Kriegshauser Mortuary West Chapel 9450 Olive Blvd., Olivette, MO. Burial in Bellerive Heritage Gardens.
