Barbara Lynn Bloom

She is survived by her brother Lackland H. Bloom Jr., and his wife Janice of Dallas, Texas. She is also survived by a niece Sylvia Bloom of Dallas, Texas and two nephews, Lackland H. Bloom III, of Houston, Texas and Jason P. Bloom and his wife Leigh of Dallas, Texas and two great nephews, William and Cole Bloom and numerous extended family members and friends who will dearly miss her, including her best friend from childhood days, Cynthia Brooks of Monument Colorado. She is preceded in death by her parents.

Barbara graduated from Southwest High School in St. Louis and Cornell College in Mt. Vernon, Iowa. She was a kind, intelligent woman –a lifelong learner, with a loving heart who saw the good in all people. Barbara will be remembered for being an adoring and doting aunt who loved to spend time with her nephews and niece, and being like an aunt to her best friend’s children as well. She loved and treasured her family and the many friendships she had developed over the years. Barbara was an especially avid reader and writer, with a superior vocabulary and mastery of the English language. In fact, there wasn’t a crossword puzzle using English words that she couldn’t successfully complete. Her passion for reading and writing led her to become a member and faithfully attend a book club and a writers’ group in St. Louis for several years. Barbara’s special affinity for her mother, whose family originated from Finland, led her to speak fluent Finish and to travel to Finland several times. In addition to being a devoted aunt, sister and friend, Barbara was truly a devoted daughter in her dad’s twilight years. Years after her mother died in 1980, Barbara took the responsibility of almost single-handedly caring for him until he had to go into managed care, and was frequently at his side until his death in 2002.

In lieu of flowers the family request that donations be made in Barbara’s memory to Cornell College in Mt. Vernon, Iowa or to her Dad’s and her favorite charity, The Mathews-Dickey Boy's & Girl's Club in St. Louis.

Visitation will take place on Friday August 8, 2018 5-9 pm at Hoffmeister Colonial Mortuary 6464 Chippewa, St. Louis. Services will be held on Saturday 1:00 pm at the funeral home. Interment to follow at Resurrection Cemetery.
