Fortified with the Sacraments of Holy Mother Church, Sunday, August 1, 2021.
Anne was born to the late Dr. John and Norrine McNamara in St. Louis, MO. Anne is survived by her husband of 46 years, Phillip Shinn of St. Louis, two children: Andrew (Jemile) Shinn of St. Louis and Margaret (Matt) Mikolajewski of Cincinnati, OH, and her five grandchildren: Sabina and Cameron Shinn, and Elise, Charlie, and Claire Mikolajewski. She is also survived by her five siblings: Susanne (David) Woods of Stamford, CT, Zoe McNamara of St. Louis, Chris Clemmons of Glenview, IL, John (Angela) McNamara of Plano, TX, and Dan (Elizabeth) McNamara of St. Louis. She was a loving wife, mother, godmother, grandmother, sister, aunt, sister-in-law, teacher, and friend of many.
Anne was an involved and caring individual. She will be greatly missed by the many people who benefited from her kindness. Anne taught for over 30 years at grade schools in the St. Louis area including Immacolata, Oak Hill, St. Michael’s of Clayton, Christ the King, Our Lady of Lourdes, and Parish School of Religion at St. Joseph’s. She was devoted to her pupils and was adept at identifying children’s unique learning needs and finding help for them early. Parents have credited her for their childrens’ successes later in life, well beyond their children having had her as a teacher. Anne especially loved preparing children for the Holy Sacraments of Reconciliation and Eucharist as it allowed her to share her devotion to Our Lord. She believed that every person is made in the image and likeness of God and is deserving of our love.
Anne attended Immacolata School and Villa Duchesne in St. Louis. She received her Bachelor’s Degree in Religion from Manhattanville College in Purchase, NY, and a Master’s Degree in Education from Washington University in St. Louis.
