It is with great sadness that we announce the death of our beloved mother, Patricia “Patsy” Claire Meagher, on Tuesday, July 23, 2019, at the age of 84, following a long and arduous struggle with Alzheimer's. She passed peacefully in her sleep at CHSLD St Lambert Sur Le Golf, where she resided for the past 4 years.
She is survived by her ex-husband, Paul Henri Girouard, and her dear children: Roland (Arlene) Girouard, Mark (Donna) Girouard and Chantal (Robert) Demers. She is the loving grandmother of Isabelle, Emilie, France, Dylan, Kelly, Collin, Nicole and Daniel, and the loving great grandmother of Gabriel, Joshua and Dace. She is pre-deceased by her sister Doreen Meagher, her brother Ronald Meagher and her sister-in-law Doreen Meagher (nee LeGrow). She is survived by her siblings Terrence (Marina) Meagher, Alden (Francis) Meagher, Darrell Meagher, Lionel (Jane) Meagher, and Avril (Bill) Head.
Patricia was a fighter from the beginning to the end. She was born at home on March 29, 1935 to her late parents, Patrick and Claire (nee Sutherland) Meagher, in one of that winter's fiercest storms. In her last days, she amazed everyone by her strength and will to live. Patricia had a strong love of life, and she greatly loved her family and neighbours. She understood that true love was a sacrifice and was always there to help in times of need. She would spend hours sitting on the floor playing with her grandchildren. In the fall, she would often be seen with the Royal Canadian Legion selling poppies to support our veterans.
Patricia enjoyed going for long walks in her neighborhood, especially to the sand pits, where she would take off her shoes to run up the sand dunes and then jump down the other side. She would often sit at the edge of the plateau with her family to enjoy the sun setting over a distant silhouette of Montreal.
Her faith in Christ was at the center of all Patricia did and she was very involved with her parish. She was part of the CWL, Christian Training Program, a lector and extraordinary minister of the Eucharist. As a mature student, she earned a Certificate of Theology from Concordia University. In 1988 she was installed in the Order of Service and was commissioned by the Bishop of St Jerome for Pastoral Service in the Palliative Care Ward of the Royal Victoria Hospital.
Patricia will be cremated and her visitation will be held at Collins Clarke funeral home at 307 Riverside Dr, in St Lambert QC, on Friday Aug 2, 2019 from 6 to 9 PM. The Rite of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St Mary's Parish Catholic Church at 125 Grove St, Greenfield Park QC on Saturday Aug. 3, 2019; there will be a Rosary at 10:30AM followed by a mass at 11AM.
Patricia’s last wish was to be interred in Nova Scotia. A ceremony will be held next summer at a place and time to be determined.
Donations in Patricia's memory may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Canada
