Patrick Douglas Scott, Sr. passed away peacefully at his home in St. Helena on October 8th at the age of 71. Patrick is survived by his wife Sharon Scott and his children Kim Engstrom and Linda, Patrick Scott Jr and Amy, Sandy Scott and Kris and grandchildren Jennifer, Courtney and Ryan Engstrom, Michael, Andrew, Nathan, Samantha and Dylan Scott, his sister Barbara Rayburn, and many special nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his mother and father Emily and Hal Di Modica, his birth father Charles Scott and his sister Rose.
Patrick was born on July 3, 1943 in San Francisco. He graduated from Balboa High School in San Francisco in 1961. Patrick proudly served in the United States Air Force. He married the love of his life, Sharon Scott in 1964. They recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.
As a lifelong auto mechanic, he owned gas stations and auto repair shops in Sausalito, San Francisco and St. Helena. In 1973, Patrick, Sharon and their three children moved to St. Helena. He operated his business as an auto mechanic and a smog technician for 4 decades on the corner of Adams and Main Street. He was an icon in our little town.
People described Patrick as having a warm heart and he gave the best hugs in town. He made people feel comfortable and was very easy to talk with and had a wonderful sense of humor. He was very dedicated to his family and especially loved our large family Christmas celebrations. He had a strong Christian faith, and he also was a member of St Helena Catholic Church. He was a member of the American Legion and Sons of Italy. He was an avid race car fan, and he raced off-road in the Mexican 1000 in Baja, and the Mint 400 in Las Vegas, as well as other off road tracks. Patrick was also a pilot and he enjoyed flying small aircraft. He loved snorkeling and diving for abalone. Patrick had a passion for traveling. He and Sharon traveled to many places around the world together with family and friends, including Africa, China, throughout Europe and to many tropical islands.
Patrick was known to many as Pat, and to others as Dad, Uncle Pat, Papa and Uncle Papa. He will live in all of our hearts forever.
