Betty Jane Kimlinger, 90, passed away on Oct. 29, 2014, peacefully and with loving care by her side at St. Helena Care Home, LLC of St. Helena.
Born at “Fairview” in Browns Valley, Napa, in 1923, she loved and lived life in Napa Valley until she passed.
She was Grand President in 1947 of Napa Business Girls (Associated Business Girls of California), and owned and operated Kim’s Sweet Shoppe in St. Helena for 15-plus years in the 1950s and ‘60s. She was an Official Chairperson for the Native Daughters of the Golden West, and a charter member for Soroptimist of St. Helena.
Her employments included: bookkeeper for Foodland Supermarket; Harold Smith and Sons; City of Saint Helena, assistant city clerk; Wine Barrel Merchants of St. Helena, self-employments and being a homemaker.
She was also an avid volunteer for such local organizations around the Napa Valley like American Legion, March of Dimes, St. Helena Hospital, Napa Valley Museum, Napa Valley Wine Auctions, Sons of Italy. She was very supportive of military organizations; a gourmet cook, world traveler, homemaker, tennis player, swimmer, Cub Scouts Den Mother; and a wife who loved gardening, camping, canning and being a caring friend to all. She will be dearly missed, yet well received.
She is survived by her husband, Werner J. Kimlinger, 95, of St. Helena, and son Michael D. Kimlinger, 63, of Napa; two Spaniels, Lady and Bitsee; many nieces and nephews. She wished any charitable donations go to Napa Hospice and/or St. Helena Catholic Church.
A Rosary will take place at Morrison Funeral Chapel, 975 Vintage Ave., St. Helena, on Monday, Nov. 10, 2014, from 6:30-7:30 p.m. A funeral service will take place at St. Helena Catholic Church, Oak and Tainter streets, St. Helena, on Tuesday, Nov. 11, 2014, at 11 a.m., with Father Gordon presiding.
