Warren enlisted in the Army Air Corps, which later became the United States Air Force. Warren primarily flew the C-46 Curtis Commando over the Hump (China, Burma, India Route). Warren also flew other aircraft such as the B-17 Flying Fortress, B-25 Mitchell Bomber, Steerman, Vultee BT-13 Valiant, P-40 Warhawk, and C47 Skytrain. Warren flew 89 missions for a total of 8070 flight hours.
Warren started working on a degree in Engineering, but realized his true love was Philosophy. His degree from the University of Detroit led him to his job with Chevrolet as a technical writer and eventually a manager over many other writers and artists.
Warren loved boating and owned many boats over the years such as the Mary Ann (a 17 foot Thompson run about), the Mary Ann II (small cabin cruiser), the Lao Kou (a larger cabin cruiser) and Twilight (a 37 foot cabin cruiser, including a dingy). He was a man of many talents, including writing, drawing, painting, glass work and music. He owned and enjoyed playing instruments such as the accordion, guitar, banjo, piano, organ, harmonica, and violin. He also had a wonderful voice and was part of a barbershop quartet. Many of us are fortunate to have his beautiful paintings displayed within our homes. He wrote many stories and especially enjoyed the stories he wrote at Christmas time to go along with the tradition of the piñata every year. His stories also included a special message linking to the true spirit of the season. He also wrote many poems, each of which had a special meaning to him and his family. He wrote a grace that the family says at mealtime. Every time that grace is said, the family will be thinking of him in addition to the many blessings God has given us.
Warren had an incredible sense of humor and always found a bright side in every situation. His jokes would catch us off guard on many occasions and he was never short on words. Warren was an avid story teller and especially enjoyed relating the many experiences he encountered while serving his country. His stories were so descriptive; it made you feel as if you had been there yourself. Warren not only enjoyed playing music, but loved to listen to a wide variety of artists ranging from Glen Miller to Paul McCartney. Warren loved watching the news, good movies, favorite TV shows and of course sports. His favorite sport was football and his favorite team was Michigan. Warren loved the Wolverines! Most of all, Warren loved his family! Warren was a magnificent husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. Warren had four children, eight grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Warren loved his God, family and country with all his heart!
