

Roberta A. Larson passed away peacefully on November 20, 2014 at her residence at Sunrise Assisted Living, Grosse Pointe Woods. She was born on November 15, 1924 to Howard & Viola (nee: Rood) Palmer in Appleton, Wisconsin. She was an older sister to her beloved brother, “Fritz” Palmer. After high school she attended Hamline University in St. Paul, MN. While studying for her Bachelor of Arts, she met her future husband, Darwin C. Larson. They married on August 23, 1947 at her parents home in Wisconsin. Together they raised, daughters, Laura (Jeffrey Santrock) and Nancy Ratajczak over their 63 years together.
Mrs. Larson was a jewelry sales specialist having assisted customers at both M.L. Green and Sons Jewelers in Mount Clemens and Charles W. Warren Jewelry Company in the Eastland Mall.
Roberta enjoyed art, music and time spent with her friends. She was devoted to opera, particularly the music of Wagner, traveling the world to attend productions of the “Ring Cycle”.
She and her husband enjoyed playing bridge with friends. Her “summer” home in St. Clair Shores was filled with warmth and beauty including antiques she collected throughout her life. She and Darwin also had a “winter” home in Sarasota, Florida where they created many memories with treasured friends.
Roberta’s business card read “Opera Buff, Concierge and Grandmother”. She was described by many as, “wonderful person”, “great lady”, “sweet”, “dear friend”, and “my second mother”. Cherished by her family, she was held in high regard by all who knew her.
In addition to her daughters, Mrs. Larson is survived by her grandchildren; Catherine Santrock, Nicholas Santrock, Maria (Aaron) Paquette, Kristina Ratajczak, Monica Ratajczak and Amanda Ratajczak; great-granddaughters, Lilly and Morgan.
