Whenever Paul would come into the office everyone's spirits would lite up.
When you heard his laugh from down the hall you could'nt help but crack up even if you had no idea what was going on.
We would talk about music and whenever I hear Tupelo Honey by Van Morrison I will think of him.
He was special to everyone who knew him but to me he was also a great Boss.

Paul & I first met at Brodhead Naval Armory, after both joining the Navy Reserves in November of 1968. We instantly hit it off...laughing in the non-funny classes we had to take, and then we drag raced home on Jefferson every Wed. night, he in his Emberglo '66 Mustang convertible, I in my Tahitian Turquoise '65 Chevy Impala. We "hung out" together almost every night in '69, drinking beer on Belle Isle (that Keith, or some other 21 year-old bought for us), going to Edgewater Amusement Park with our girlfriends, Detroit Dragway, to the model airplane competitions he loved, the State Fair, and listening to records with friends at Mrs. Koczara's house (Paul could really dance well, the ladies loved him!). That debauchery went on until we went on active duty, he to Viet Nam, me to the Mediterranean. His wacky humor was the first quality I noticed in '68 (he was cukoo for Cocoa Puffs!). When I bought my classic '65 Mustang in 1982 (pictured), looking at it reminded me of Paul, and we re-established contact, 10 years after getting out of the Navy. His warmth, loyalty, charismatic popularity, and dedication to family & friends were qualities I admired in him long afterward. I truly loved him like a brother. It's now very hard to comprehend that he's gone. He was always there whenever I needed to talk to a special friend for the past 30 years, especially when we lost our son in 2001. My heart-felt condolences go to Suzanne, Kristy and Robbie, as they were the benefactors of, and the inspiration for, his love, leadership, wisdom, and guidance.

I am sad for your loss but gladened by the addition Paul made to my life. I will miss the annual dinners and catch up.

As a Kindergartner friend of Paul's brother Patrick, I was adopted into the Giles Family of friends.   True to the up-bringing that “a friend of one family member is a friend to all”, I had the distinct pleasure to know Paul and call him my friend.   I am proud to have had the privilege to be on Paul's championship softball team “back in the day”.   Mostly as a bench warming cheerleader, but it didn't matter.   Whenever I met with Paul for business or socially, we would always reminisce the team with fond memories, and Paul would always talk like I was a big part of the team.   We both knew better, but that was just how Paul was.   

I heard recently that an ordinary person's life touches 10,000 other lives.   I know that Paul's life had to have touched many more!   Count me as one.
