Marty Jr was born July 14, 1991 to proud parents Martin Erwin Prehn Sr and Carol Diane LaCoss in Detroit, Michigan. Marty leaves behind his sister, Stephanie, his son Terrence, and his niece, Paityn, as well as many aunts, uncles and cousins.
Marty was greeted on the other side by his Father, Marty Sr, his Mother, Carol, his paternal grandparents Gerhard and Bernice “Jean” Prehn as well as Maternal Grandmother Dorothea LaCoss.
Marty had a special relationship with his dad who recently passed from covid complications. The pair were referred to as Big Marty and Little Marty, Biggie and Tiny or Sr and Jr. Marty Jr had a smile that could light up a room and was an avid sports fan. Marty was a skilled tile worker and thoroughly enjoyed time spent on Houghton Lake.
Marty was a bright young man who should have had more time on this earth. Marty’s addiction changed him and his family as they tried desperately to save him for many years.
The family is sharing the truth about his passing in order to spread awareness and compassion regarding mental wellness and addiction. So often, addicts feel judged or stuck in a shame spiral with no way out. Marty fought very hard over and over to get away from the drugs and the choices the drugs led him to, but ultimately lost his battle.
A private memorial will be held at a later date.
In lieu of financial memorial contributions, the family requests an act of kindness to be done in honor of Marty Jr.
